Archives for the month of: April, 2026
The Fairy Princess has not written in a while, but when there is news, she will pop into the chat, as the kids say….
First hot off the presses – Broadway Producer Lainie Sakakura is no longer in association with the production of Flower Drum Song going up at East West Players, where she had been operating as Choreographer for the production.
While her work at EWP is done, she wishes everyone well, and is off to her next project in Seattle – HOTEL ON THE CORNER OF BITTER AND SWEET.
To keep up with Lainie, please click here to go to her website and learn about her latest projects.
Her work has been removed, however as of this writing, we do not know if her bio has been removed from the program, thus in order to prevent misunderstandings, TFP thought she would mention it.
This production is incorporating a new book written by David Henry Hwang, and is opening their first preview tomorrow night – April 17th, under the direction of newly appointed Artistic Director, Lily Tung Crystal. The musical has been updated from it’s previous Broadway revival in 2002, which starred Lea Salonga, Jose Llana, Randall Duk Kim, Jodi Long, Allen Liu and Sandra Allen.
In this version of FDS, the book has been updated by David Henry Hwang to reflect a more accurate depiction of the character Mei Li’s backstory as she flees China during the Cultural Revolution. Specifically set in the 1960’s in San Francisco’s Chinatown, the programming of this show is meant to be the highlight of EWP’s historical 60th season.
Tickets for Flower Drum Song – starring Broadway’s Grace Yoo (Hadestown), Theater and television’s Emily Kuroda (The Gilmore Girls, All Rise, The Good Doctor, The Resident etc) and Broadway, Film and Television star, Gedde Watanabe (Pacific Overtures, Gung Ho, Mulan, ER) – alongside Broadway’s Marc Oka, Scott Keiji Takeda, Cooper Bennett, Kenton Chen, and Krista Marie Yu – can be found here.
The Ensemble includes: Paul Wong, Gemma Pedersen, Ethan Yaheen-Moy Chan, Esther Lee, Sally Hong, Tony Jin, Sierra Goria, Joven Calloway, Ai Toyoshima, Haoyi Wen, IJay Espinoza, Brian Liebson, Hillary Tang, Emma Park
This production is set to run until May 31, 2026.
Break Legs Folx!
Here is some exciting news….

Hannah Kevitt returns to the Broadway company of MAYBE HAPPY ENDING as Claire alongside a new Oliver, as Zachary Noah Piser steps into the role beginning May 19, 2026.
TFP was quite excited.
Also, she called it, ahem, a while ago.
Had Laufey only known sooner maybe he could have given Hudson Williams a run for his money….
She hopes they used sunscreen cuz….
…and please think of TFP when you cast your next Auntie!
(She wants to be the ‘fun’ Auntie though….)
Congratulations to Alec Mapa who was cast as the wicked Vicount Ethan on the Regency pilot at CBS “The Tillbrooks”, that did not get picked up, but did get him into Regency period costume, and he has never looked more glam –

Oooh TFP loves a pilot season or a return to pilot season, or whatever we are doing to try and tell stories that bring more AANHPIs into our living rooms. Thank you Shonda Rhimes for leading the way and leaving the door open with delicious period casting.
Finally, TFP wants to congratulate Playwright, Lauren Yee on being a part of the 2026-2027 season of Signature Theater, with her play, King of the Yees.
The play will open in October 2026 and will star Tony Award Winner, Francis Jue.
This piece will be directed again by Joshua Kahan Brody and Mr. Jue will reprise his role of Larry, who is the main character’s father.
Tickets are not yet available, because TFP checked….but when they are….you should click here.
Oh and GIANT SHOUT OUT to Simu Liu, who was absolutely fabulous in Oh! Mary on Broadway.
TFP thoroughly enjoyed his turn as John Wilks Booth – so much so, she went and bought a copy of the play so she could ‘relive’ that performance – along with John Cameron Mitchell as Mary. Just brilliantly written. It was raining and he came out and signed autographs – delightful.
And thus, TFP’s first foray back, dipping a toe in…is done, fini!
Hope you caught her on NBC’s The Hunting Party, if not – it’s episode 208, Kids
TFP out!
